Fresh pizza ggplot insights

I often get asked for pizza recommendations or where I’ve recently been eating pizza. This incentivizes me to maintain my pizza consumption data. I have a Google map that includes places where I have eaten pizza. I continue to rate pizzas using our Yum Index approach, and I graphed data from the past year using R and ggplot. Things I learned from tabulating my pizza ratings from this past year:

  • I tried 79 pizzas between March 4, 2025 and March 4, 2026.
  • 21% of these pizzas had pepperoni.
  • 16% of these pizzas were Detroit style.
  • Pizza Performance Index range from 31-100 with an average score of 73.
  • 18 pizzas scored 90+.
  • Two pizzas scored a perfect 100 – one from Lovely’s Fifty Fifty in Portland and one from Swing in Seattle.
  • I eat pizzas at a reliably monthly cadence thanks to pizza club 🙂

I described the pizza rating approach in an Ignite talk on March 16, 2023 and gave another talk on friends and enemies from my initial talk on March 10, 2026.
